P Tuckwell Limited approached Hills to discuss the feasibility and likelihood of a successful planning application for a new-build project to demolish the existing asbestos-clad agricultural and horticultural showroom and rebuilding a new energy efficient facility which will be able to vastly improve the quality and quantity of accommodation available to them for use as a showroom and offices. Additional storage facilities and workshops will also be provided.
Initial discussions between the Hills team and Tendring District Council planners identified that the building was outside of the development boundary (village envelope) and therefore could present a potential problem. However, Hills were able to persuade Tendring District Council that there were extenuating circumstances and the merits of producing a facility such as this, vastly outweighed any potential down side.
The client was highly involved in the design process and the end product has been very much a team effort. An open-book approach to costings has allowed the client to produce this facility within their budget requirement. This value engineering can only be undertaken when the client and Hills are able to develop a close relationship.
This project is currently underway.
